There was WHAT in the Green Beans?! #Gross!

Imagine sitting down to a meal with your family. Included in this meal is a vegetable that you don't particular care for, green beans, but you consume them anyhow since you want to set a good example for your children. You finish off your meal, and so does your daughter- but she'd like some more green beans.

Great, right?

Well, let's say your husband goes to get her said green beans.... and then he. finds. THIS...

Gross right?  Oh, wait... can you tell what it is? Perhaps you can't tell because it has been beheaded. It is a frog head. Yep, just the head.

Okay....pause here to go use the bathroom... I know if you're like me, you'll have to.

This is what happened to a friend of mine. A very real, and disgusting, story (photo and story used with permission).

And, let me tell you this isn't the first time a frog has been found in green beans... in fact one was found canned, and yet another frog in another frozen brand!

Phew. Now, let me tell you something.... the FDA allows certain levels of food defects. I am unsure if the list of defects is complete, or if they are only examples of levels...but I couldn't find green beans on the list to say if the FDA "allows" frogs as an acceptable food defect.

I do understand why they allow certain levels of food defects, I do. I know it is impossible to have food completely free of mold, bugs, and less than perfect pieces of the food you are harvesting. If you have ever went and picked mushrooms, or berries, or any other edible thing you likely know this too. However, I do not believe that FROGS (or any other WHOLE animal) should be missed in the process! And yes, I do believe this frog was whole before it went through the chopping...which means somewhere out there the other half (or other pieces) of this frog will likely be found in a bag of frozen Steamfresh green beans.

So, what should you do if you find a frog in your green beans (or other disgusting situation)?  Let the FDA know

Moral of the story...dump your foods out of the package and give it a good stir- you never know what may be lurking inside.

So.... I have to know, if YOU found a frog in your green beans what would your reaction be? Could the company do anything to win you back as a customer?

My dad ordered collard greens at a restaurant several months back, he found a cooked grasshopper in the mix. Yum-o...

I ordered a mixed greens salad at a more upscale restaurant and got a rather large stick underneath the greens.

I had to ask the waiter if it was supposed to be that way or not... I had never eaten at that fancy of a restaurant. The waiter was embarrassed because he had prepared the salad and it was indeed not supposed to have a stick in it.

I think I might demand a replacement if there was a frog head (or any other animal part) in my frozen veggies.

Stuff like this always makes me laugh. I once found a full lizard in my grapes from the store. lol It was completely weird but I think it reminded me that food comes from honest to goodness dirt. We're really separated from our food and this is another reason I started gardening and homesteading. The standards of the FDA (ie number of bugs in each can of food allowable) is really gross. I totally wash the tops of my soda cans after the whole rats in the storage area news story. Sorry to hear that your friend had a fright.

Ew, ew, ew! I wouldn't be able to eat that food or brand for quite a long time if I found any animal parts inside my veggies. *blech*

I think I would have tossed my cookies for sure! Note to self: from now on veggies go in a serving bowl to look over BEFORE we eat them.
GROSS!

Oh my goodness, that's really gross. I've heard of stuff like that happening before, but have never actually seen a picture. I know someone who found a worm in a McDs chicken nugget many years ago. Barf.
