I have received information and products from McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc., the makers of TYLENOL®. The opinions stated are my own. This is a sponsored post for SheSpeaks.

As parents we love to see our children's smiles. However, when our little ones are sick, those smiles are hard to find.  I'm SMILING IT FORWARD™ because I love what Tylenol is doing to help Children's Health Fund.

The power of SMILING IT FORWARD™ was set in motion recently by How I Met Your Mother star and social media mother of two, Alyson Hannigan. By sharing the first “smile” of her two daughters Satyana, 4, and Keeva, 1, Hannigan triggered the first donation from TYLENOL® to Children’s Health Fund, an organization well-known for its mobile medical clinics that provide healthcare services to under-served children throughout the U.S. Now, until mid-January, moms across the country can join in by sharing their own smiles at, prompting TYLENOL® to make a $1 donation to Children’s Health Fund, up to $100,000, helping to ensure a doctor's visit is always within reach for children in need.

“Being a mom has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” said Hannigan. “And being the first mom of many to participate in SMILING IT FORWARD™ warms my heart because it will help other children receive high-quality medical care like my daughters do.”

“When Keeva is up at night teething, or Satyana is fussy with a fever, it’s pediatric TYLENOL® products I rely on to relieve their symptoms,” continued Hannigan. “And when those smiles return to their faces, it’s the best signal I have that they are starting to feel better. I live for that smile, so I am honored to be a part of a campaign to bring more smiles to children across the country.”

We all know that smile. The "I finally feel better" smile. It's a smile that brings us relief and helps us to know that the worst is over, our little pumpkin is on the mend. For more than 50 years, the makers of TYLENOL® have been helping to bring “feel better” smiles to generations of children. Through SMILING IT FORWARD™, TYLENOL® aims to garner 100,000 smiles in order to help the 85,000 low-income urban and rural children who are served by Children’s Health Fund each year.

SMILING IT FORWARD™ makes it easy for people to join the movement. By sharing a photo that makes you smile at, TYLENOL® will make a $1 donation to Children’s Health Fund, up to $100,000, helping to ensure a doctor’s visit is always within reach for children in need.

In addition to sharing photos at, moms can go on the site to view the TYLENOL® Smile Gallery, learn more about Alyson Hannigan and Children’s Health Fund, and receive tips from leading pediatrician, Dr. Tanya Altmann, about keeping families smiling through cold and flu season.

So how about it, do you have a picture that makes you smile?

The A, B, C's to Help Prevent Influenza #MC #Sponsored

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for MedImmune Specialty Care. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

I don't know about your house, but here we've been "enjoying" the lovely germs. Okay, I hope you've noticed the intended sarcasm... because really, I hate this time of year. It always seems like someone in my house is sick (it's probably just a numbers thing- just more likely to have at least one out of 10 people be sick at any given time).

The truth is, Fall and Winter are times when people are closer together (inside, because of less desirable weather; inside for school; more shoppers in the malls; more family togetherness for holidays, etc). This means there are more germs around us all. There are things we can do to help prevent illnesses, especially the flu.

My family does receive the flu vaccine each year. Last year a second grade girl in our town died from complications of pneumonia following the flu. To be honest, I don't think I will ever forget last winter when this happened...and I don't think I will be able to ever skip a flu vaccine for my children in the future. While I know not everyone agrees with vaccines, I personally can't justify not getting a vaccine that may potentially save my child. I know those parents who have lost their children would do anything to go back and get the vaccine. There isn't anything that is ever 100%, but I do feel more safe when my children are vaccinated.

Of course, vaccinations are only one part prevention. Hand washing is so important (not just to prevent the flu, of course). Even when hands aren't visibly soiled they still carry germs. When I took my CNA class I remember getting special powder put on my hands, and then we were told to wash it off. I was pretty amazed that there was a lot left after what I considered to be decent handwashing. Using the birthday song is very helpful to gauge how long you should wash, but you should also keep in mind that those cracks and crevices (and under nails) need to be scrubbed, too. It's important to wash hands well and teach children to do the same.

Capturing the germs is also very important. By letting those germs fly, you are letting those germs get to others. So be sure to cover that cough (and sneeze)! We cough into our elbows or shoulders here, since they are less likely than our hands to pass on germs. Toss away tissues you use, and wash and/or sanitize your hands after.

Be sure to check out the free eBook by Elizabeth Pantley for tons more great information on the flu and what you can do to prevent getting ill.

Dohmie #SeriousSleep

This post was compensated by Marpac as part of my participation in a campaign with the Mom It Forward Blogger Network.

Sleep. Ah, as parents we often miss this often. Usually it's not because we couldn't sleep if given the chance..but more that our lovely little ones seem to have difficulty sleeping.

We've been experiencing this for the last 10 years. Most recently, we've had difficulty with our 1 and 3 year olds. Our 3 year old daughter wakes very, very often in the night. It's not entirely a mystery why she does this, she has enlarged tonsils and will be having them removed in about a week. Our one year old, however, doesn't have an issue like this. He just wakes....often. We've tried different things to get him to sleep through the night, special night time routines along with lavender scents to help, heavier meals to help his belly stay satisfied, even not coming to him quickly in the night (which really didn't help...). We also have a 3 month old baby....sleepless nights are just the norm for him- but wouldn't it be nice if all of them would sleep a little better?

Since they all have issues with sleeping we were pretty excited to get the Dohmie Serious Sleep Baby Bundle for review.

The Dohm is a noise conditioner. White noise helps babies (and people in general) to fall asleep and stay asleep. You've probably created this type of noise yourself...think of the "Shhhh, Shhhh" noise that you make when trying to calm an infant. Now imagine that a machine could calm a child like that, too.

We've been using the Dohmie system for about two weeks now. We've found that it is helpful, and there were a few really neat things that I learned after we actually had it in our hands. The first thing is that you can change the sound of the Dohm. By turning the top and side pieces, as well as the switch, you can create many different noises. Annabelle has learned how to do this, and she loves to make it "just right" for her before she goes to sleep. She will actually say, "Momma, listen to the shush".

I think Dohmie would be most beneficial for parents with a young baby, as we have found the biggest difference to be with our 3 month old. Our 1 year old still wakes in the night, as does our three year old, but Orrin really seems to stay asleep longer with the help of the Dohm.

I have noticed that it helps me feel calmer when I am in the room with it. There is something about the noise that drowns out all of the background noise that bombards us every day (think dryer, dishwasher, heater, creaks in the floor, kids in the other room, etc.).

Does your child (or children) wake often? Have you ever tried to use noise to get them to sleep better?

Check out these FUN Car Seats!

This is a sponsored post.

As kids get older it gets harder to keep them willing to sit in car seats. While it is much safer, riding in car seats is just something many kids do not like to do. Kids Embrace has helped make that easier!

These fun car seats will make any kid thrilled to ride in the car. With characters like Batman, Spongebob and Dora, how could they resist?

I know even my older boys would be pretty excited about this Batman car seat. If you think a special kid in your life would like it too, try to enter to win the Batman car seat.

Here is what KIDSEmbrace says about the safety of their car seats:

In sudden stops or crashes, the KIDSEmbrace™ seat controls forward movement of the child's head using our own patent-pending high-position top tether system, which allows the head support to rise and lower with the tether in place. The KIDSEmbrace™ car seat offers side-impact protection and our deeper "wraparound" headrest design shields the sides of your child's face from flying glass in event of a collision. In fact, no other child safety seat on the market has the same combination of features as this one.

Story time is even more #fun with #ReadwithMeScout!

I received product as part of a promotional program with LeapFrog and MomSelect.

I love reading and I want our children to love reading, too. We take time to read to our children, but the truth is- we can't always read exactly when our children want us to read to them. Read with Me Scout is a great alternative for the kids when Mom and Dad don't have the chance to read with them.

Read with Me Scout from LeapFrog is an interactive plush toy that helps children develop reading comprehension skills to get them on a path to reading. Not only does puppy pal Scout make reading fun with five interactive stories that he reads aloud, but he also responds to every pet, pat, hug and kiss! Simply press a button on his collar to start reading and pat his head to turn the page. Scout will ask your child questions throughout each story to create engaging learning moments and help build comprehension skills. Scout loves to sing, too!  Switch into Sleepy Time Mode when it's time to snuggle and listen to relaxing stories and eight minutes of lullabies.

I personally found that Scout was a little too sensitive.  It seemed every time one of the kids moved Scout would think that s/he was giving him kisses or hugs. I also thought that the wait time to get back to the story after these interactions was a little long. Our 3 year old really wasn't able to listen and follow Scout's directions very well, but Nolyn (4.5y) did do better. Our 6 year old did the best with Scout, and seem to enjoy Scout reading to him the most.
I do love the concept, and Scout has been great for times when I can help the kids learn how to use him. The kids also really seem to enjoy Read with Me Scout, even when they get a bit off track with the books. The books are also nice board books, so you don't have to worry about pages being ripped or lost easily (which is really nice).

It's getting cold out there... good time for #RSVAwareness #MC

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for MedImmune. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

It's getting cold...more people are congregating together indoors- which means there will be more germs will be around, too. One of those germs is RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus). RSV causes mild cold-like symptoms and nearly 100% of children get RSV by age 2, but RSVcan be very dangerous for some children.

RSV is very contagious and can be spread easily through touching, sneezing and coughing. Additionally, the virus can live on the skin and surfaces for hours. While premature babies are especially at risk, any young child can have problems with RSV. When two of our older boys were 18 months and 4 months old they both had RSV. They were lucky to not have to be hospitalized, but they did require nebulizer treatments every 4 hours around the clock so that they continued breathe the way they needed to in order to keep their oxygen levels up. That is a very scary situation for any parent!

Preterm infants are born with undeveloped lungs and immature immune systems that put them at heightened risk for developing severe RSV disease, often requiring hospitalization. RSV infection is more likely to root in premature lungs where developing airways are narrowed and especially fragile. Preterm babies carry fewer virus-fighting antibodies—a precious gift from mom that all infants need while their own immune systems mature after birth.

There is no treatment for RSV disease once it’s contracted, so prevention is critical. To help minimize the spread of RSV disease, all parents should:

· Wash their hands and ask others to do the same
· Keep toys, clothes, blanket and sheets clean
· Avoid crowds and other young children during RSV season
· Never let anyone smoke around your baby

· Steer clear of people who are sick or who have recently been sick

World Prematurity Day is November 17th: Learn the Risks Associated with Preterm Birth
Speak to your child’s pediatrician to determine if your baby is at high risk for RSV disease, and if so, what additional steps may be recommended. For more information about RSV and prevention, visit

Take Flight for a Great Adventure with Planes!

Download Facts & Activities

We had the chance to check out Disney's Planes this last week, and we have very much enjoyed it!

The world of Cars takes flight in Planes, Disney's high-flying animated comedy revved up with action and adventure.  Join Dusty, a crop duster with sky-high dreams and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take on the world's fastest flyers in the greatest air race ever. Dusty has a huge heart but two big problems...he's not exactly built for speed, plus he's afraid of heights.  His courage is put to the ultimate test as this unlikely hero aims higher than he ever imagined. With a little help from his friends, Dusty finds the courage to be more than he was built for—and the inspiration to soar.

We all had a fun movie night and watched how a "little cropduster" named Dusty found out that he could follow his dreams- all he had to do is try. I also loved the lesson about working through your fears. It's a great family movie that can inspire some great conversations with the little ones.

We also had fun drawing Dusty. Would you like to learn how to draw Dusty, too? Check out the video below:

Disney Planes is available November 19th, on Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack (Blu-ray 3D™ + Blu-ray™ + DVD + Digital Copy); Blu-ray Combo Pack (Blu-ray™ + DVD + Digital Copy); and DVD (DVD + Digital Copy). Planes is rated PG (in the US).

I'd love to see your drawing of Dusty! Leave me a link if you post him on social media and would like to share!

Every Child Needs a Budsie! #GreatGift

I received the items below for the purpose of review. No monetary compensation was received.

Awesome gifts are hard to come by. Sure, there are a lot of good gifts out there, even some great ones...but awesome ones just aren't as easy to find. Well, I think I have found one that is amazing for any kid, maybe even any person!

I have had the chance to check out Budsies, and I am so excited to share what Budsies are. The team over at Budsies bring drawings to life- well, in a way (don't worry, the monsters you draw won't bite you). They take a drawing and they create a replica of it in stuffed form!

Okay, let me show you.

Our son, Liam, drew the fire-breathing reindeer-dragon as seen on the paper.

I took a photo of the photo, uploaded it at, and in about a month we received the awesome creation you see above the drawing!

His drawing came to life! We loved that they got everything from the green tail and one purple leg (the rest are red), to the tongue sticking out the side of the mouth, just right. The details are really quite amazing.

RJ also drew a picture for us. He made a rainbow turtle:

Budsies are an amazing product, and one I can see ordering many times over the years. I think they would be wonderful for any child, even adults too!  How many times have you doodled something you love? You could turn that doodle into a very special gift for your little one! These are items that will be cherished for a long time!

Ordering our Budsies was easy. Sign in with an account, click create Budsie, upload your picture (or you an email it, or text it!), describe it, choose how many you'd like made (choose a few to give, or choose to make it one of a kind) and then checkout. You won't be charged until the designers check out the picture and know that they can make it. Then about 2-4 weeks later you'll get a package in the mail!

What do you think? Would your child enjoy this as a gift?

Ahoy Mateys!

Here are some great activity sheets that are available free for download in celebration of Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Never Land Rescue's release coming up on November 19th, 2013!

A Little Pop of Color

I received the dress featured in this post for the purpose of review.

We had our family photos taken toady. It's quite the experience, to say the least. Eight kids are hard to wrangle and try to get them all to smile at once is nearly impossible. But, this day has been in planning for over a month! As you can imagine, finding the perfect clothing for a family photo shoot with a family of 10 is a bit daunting. With our last family photos we went with a grey theme...this time we wanted to do a little less matchy-matchy.

The difficult thing is to find outfits that coordinate for many different ages and genders. Gymboree is fantastic for this. With clothing sizes of newborn to 12 years, you can find some great family looks that coordinate and will be perfect for that family photo shoot!

Family pictures??
Family pictures

Our photographer, Tatum of Tatum Photo + Design, suggested that we add some pops of color into our outfits, and I love that we were able to get some great colors that still went with one another.

For Annabelle, we chose the Gem Ponte Dress and added some really fun tights to go along with it to give her that pop of color- and helped her dress fit in with the other boys' outfits, too!

The holiday season is the best time to be a kid. All the wonder, all the surprises, it's something we want to capture in our photographs! I adore this dress. It's classic elegance makes it timeless- this is a dress that will look great even when we're looking back at it in 10 years, which is good considering we WILL be looking at our family photos in 10 years (and hopefully not wanting to submit them to an awkward family photo website)!

Each of the gems on the dress are sewn on, although you cannot tell that they are unless you very closely inspect them. The quality of the fabric is wonderful, it's thick and comfortable to wear. The entire Joyful Holiday collection is great, and will be perfect for your family photo needs- it even includes items for Mom and Dad!

If you are looking for great family looks this season, be sure to check out the new collections that just came out, too, and the great sales that are going on!

I can't wait to show you the rest of our photos, be on the lookout for another post soon!

A Word of Caution for those Seeking High Speed Internet from #Exede

These are my personal opinions and experiences.

When we moved last month, I was disappointed that I could no longer keep my cable internet provider. When I looked for other internet providers I expected to find something comparable. Unfortunately I was sadly mistaken.

Of course, all non-cable internet choices have data limits. This was scary for me, since I am on the internet a fair amount of time. I figured I'd be paying a lot of money for extra bandwidth. Well, I haven't had that problem, that's for sure!

My internet practically never works. I am currently working in offline mode, and will finally publish this when I get a signal again. I have called customer service numerous times, and through resetting my modem and restarting my computer I CAN get internet back...for 5 minutes then it's out again. It is SO frustrating! I reset my modem at least 5 times a day, and I usually just plain give up.

Of course, there is no reason why Exede would want to solve my problem. They'll get paid for the next 23 months regardless because I am in a binding contract.

Anyhow, buyer beware. Exede has been horrible for me, I would rather have dial-up at this point.  Exede requires auto-pay monthly on the first, and there are no paper bills. I have yet to receive an e-bill, but they have taken the money out of my account just fine.

I just cannot explain my disappointment fully in words here. I would be very careful and do some research in the area you are considering living in when looking into Exede internet. I wish I had done more research myself.

Don't Forget to Fall Back! Make it Easier with Some Great Tips and @Pampers #giveaway! #DDDivas #DivasSleep #sponsored

This review was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Pampers. I was provided the featured product free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% mine.

As if sleep weren't difficult enough for children, we have to add in Daylight-Savings time. Oh yes, it's that time of year again!  This Sunday, most of us will be setting our clocks back an hour at 2am. Some people might rejoice- since we're gaining an hour of sleep- but parents...yeah right!

Those little beans don't understand that the clock says 6am, it feels like 7am and they are ready to go! Daylight-Savings time can change schedules and create chaos until everyone is adjusted again, but it's not all bad.

Over half of moms (52%) feel that their baby's sleep patterns are thrown off when the clocks 'fall back' and Daylight Savings Time ends! If your baby is 5 months old or older (those younger haven't yet fully developed a sleep pattern), there are a few things you can do to help ease the transition.

Here are a few tips from Kim WestLCSW-C, Sleep Lady Solutions, LLC (a sleep expert).

For children under 4 years old, its essential that we make naps a priority this time change. Quality nighttime sleep is dependent upon good daytime sleep. Make sure that your children are well-napped during the day so that when the time change takes effect having a later-feeling bedtime isn’t as much of an issue. Start moving your child's nap a few days before the time change. Make a point to slowly adjust your child’s bedtime and naptimes an hour earlier, just 15-30 minutes a day for a few days before daylight savings ends. This way, your child will already be adjusted to the time change. While you’re adjusting naps and bedtime, make sure that you also adjust mealtimes in 10-15 minute increments to help ease the transition.

Another great tip..Get outside. It’s getting colder, so bundle everyone up and take a morning walk, just 20 or 30 minutes to make sure that you and your baby get some sunshine, which will help your circadian rhythm adjust to the time change. If you can’t manage a morning walk, make sure that the blinds are open as you start your day, and keep them open up to 45 minutes before nap and bedtimes to help your child adjust to the time change.

I personally don't mind Daylight-Savings. I rather enjoy the first couple of weeks. I allow more time with the kids at night so we can re-establish a night-time routine. To ensure that your children know when it’s time to sleep, rely on your established soothing bedtime routine. Routines are comforting for children, so make sure that you keep your baby’s routine the same, although you will be starting it a bit later due to the time change. Make sure that you are changing your baby’s diaper right before you tuck them into the crib to help prevent wet diapers at night and unnecessary nighttime awakenings. If your baby often has diapers that leak during the night and require a change, please make sure to use overnight diapers that can keep your baby dry for up to 12 hours to help limit your baby’s sleep disturbances. Thankfully Pampers can help those babies stay dry throughout the night, so at least leaks aren't part of the chaos!

We know this weekend may be a challenge, but we hope your well rested and up for a great Twitter party next Thursday!
