Hello, My name is Jen...and I am TERRIFIED of Friday!

I am scared terrified of the impending doom coming this Friday. No, I am not joking...

What is it that I am so concerned about, you ask?

This:
source

And this:

And most of all.... this:

All because I want to do this:

That's right...! I want to be a mail carrier. Well... a part time mail carrier. I have applied for a position in a local post office and I am to the point where I have to take my USPS driver assessment test.

Let me tell ya, this test is INTIMIDATING. They look for ways to fail you.... I was told that no one who has applied for this position in the last six months has passed the driver's assessment test! Now I am even more terrified... and to top it all off- I have to drive an hour away to the closest thing northern Michigan has to a large city! I HATE driving in the city. *sigh*.

So, I sit here psyching myself out and studying. I have never been a good parallel parker- I will walk 10 blocks to avoid parallel parking! I have done a U-Turn about twice in my driving life, and never done a Y-Turn or a K turn (both requirements for the test). I don't keep two hands on the wheel at all times, I don't curb my wheels or put my parking break on when parking, and I rarely stop before a stop sign ( I usually stop a few feet afterward... to see better). All these things will be watched during my assessment.... so now I need to re-learn how to be very strict in my driving ways.

Now, although I am not rigid and strict in following all the driving rules I do want to say I have only once been in an accident involving another driver (that one time was in a parking lot involving an EMT vehicle going too fast and without lights and sirens, and the cop said it was NOT my fault). I know I am a good driver... and I think I *should* pass this test, but I totally feel like I will fail!

How, oh hoooooow will I figure out how to calm myself for the test!?!  I am so worried that I will be soo terrified that I will get into an accident or do something totally stupid.

Any of you wonderful readers taken an USPS driver's assessment test before? How was it, I need all the scary details...

You can do it, no prob. ;-)
I used to loathe parallel parking even in our little Honda, but now I can even do our SUV without raising my blood pressure...too much. ;-)

Well, first of all, I want to say how exciting it is to know the USPS is even hiring! Second, I can't even imagine the stress you're under. I think I drive like you do. LOL I can't wait to hear you've passed!

When I am very nervous about something I find 2 or 3 shots of scotch calms me right down.

Good Luck!!

You will do great! When I first met my husband 11 years ago I would actually get out of the car to have him parallel park for me. Now I do it all the time, no problem. :) I look forward to your "I Passed!" post!!

My dad has worked as a clerk for the USPS for some 30+ years but when he first transferred here {Vegas} from Chicago he had to be a carrier for awhile, which meant he had to take this test, too. I was little so I have no idea if it was hard for him or not but he passed so hooray! I'm sure you will too! :)

I get sick thinking about Parallel Parking. I think I would rather walk miles than parallel park. I will drive circles wasting copious amount of fuel just to find a parking space that you can pull in to, lmbo!

Good Luck! I'll be thinking about you!

My husband has worked for USPS for 31 years in Dec. First as a clerk and the a year-ish later he became a carrier. Seriously, I don't think the test was an issue. They are very big on safty so drive safey and good luck! Oh, and the PO isn't hiring per se, they contract a lot of carriers these days.

Good luck on Friday! I'd recommend closing your eyes and breathing, but that's probably a really BAD idea when it comes to a driving test. Deep, cleansing breaths. You can do this!

Hi! I didn't see if you passed or not....was searching the Internet in hopes of finding how to pass...unfortunately, I took this test in CA and didn't pass. Seriously, I've been a driver for over 25 years, no accidents...Anyway, hope you did better than me.....:)

I did pass! It was difficult, and I didn't think I passed, but I did enough good things to make up for the couple bad things I did. It's hard though!

Six,
What exactly did the driving test entail? Parallel parking? Three point turn? U turn. My test will be coming up very soon!

Thanks,
HiRollerette

All of the above, HiRollerette. We drove for quite a while, and we did everything... all types of parking, u turn, yeilding, all turns ( left and rights at a stop sign, stop light,etc.).

I made a few mistakes, but I still passed!
