Episencial Review and Giveaway! CLOSED

Ahhh, Summer. The warmth of the sun. Unfortunately, with the warmth comes dangerous UV rays. 

Episencial has some great sun products to combat those UV rays!

"Episencial was founded by Kim Walls, M.S., a second-generation skin care expert from the Epicuren family, who couldn’t find skin care products for her babies that met her standards for quality and care for the environment – so, she created her own with the help of several moms and dads." (Episencial)

I was sent a 4 oz tube of Sunny Sunscreen, and travel size Soothing Cream, and Protective Face Balm.

Episencial products are manufactured under solar power and with safe ingredients. I also learned something when reviewing these products, "The government requires all products to use the INCI Latin (English) nomenclature for botanical ingredients". So, if you see all those crazy words that are difficult to understand...that is because of the government, but some manufacturers- like Episencial- put the common name of the ingredient in parenthesis so we know what it is!

Let's talk about the Sunny Sunscreen first. The sunny sunscreen has an SPF of 35 (which means it blocks about 97% of UVB rays), and is safe for all children, including infants, according to the package.  The suggested retail price for a 4oz tube is $15.

This sunscreen went on alright, it is milky until absorbed, but after some rubbing it did absorb all the way and was clear, and once dry it doesn't feel  too bad on.  Overall I think this is a fairly good sunscreen, Episencial says it protects from both UVA and UVB rays, which is very important to me. 

The Protective Face Balm has an SPF of 6 (which means it would take 6 times as long to get a burn). You can use it all over your face, including on your lips. There is very little scent, and very little taste (maybe a little bit of Zinc, but not too noticeable). Suggested retail price is $6. I used this on my 7 year old son's lips and he didn't seem to mind it.

The Soothing Cream was the most interesting of the three creams for me. I had gotten a bit of a burn on my face, so I thought I should try it. Well, it burned... well, tingled is a better word. The product description says, "Helps relieve eczema, itches & bothered skin", and on the back it says for after sun. I took bothered as burned, which I don't think is what they meant by after sun... so, if you purchase this product, I do not recommend it for sun burns as I did not find it very soothing for that.  I tried to put it on my 2 year old's face (he has eczema on his face), but he didn't want any part of that. I am not sure if it tingled for him too, or if he was just being squirmy and didn't want me to put anything on him. Suggested retail price is $14.99 for the 4oz bottle.

Overall, I like Episencial's simplicity and I love that the products are made in the USA using solar power!
